As baseball took over the big apple New York had one of the biggest baseball teams in Baseball history, but they wouldn't be the only team in New York. The New York Mets were born on july 27, 1959, which was founded by William Shea, a new york attorney. The mets first win in franchise history was on April 23, 1962. The Mets played their first season in 1962 but lost 100 games during their first year and the mets were making a bad impression on the yankees. the Mets played in shea stadium for the first time on April 17, 1964. They lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-3. Did you know that Shea Stadium was named after William Shea.
One of the mets biggest players in history came to the mets in a draft lottery on April 2, 1966. It was Tom Seaver,who came was a pticher coming out of USC(University of Southern California). In 12 seasons with the metropolitans, Seaver won 198 games in a mets uniform. He complied to win 311 games. He won a World Championship and was elected into the National Baseball, he even was inducted in the Mets hall of fame in 1988, he even Hall of Fame in 1993. Tom seaver was supposed to have been the mets arch-rival Atlanta Braves but was void by Commissioner William D.Eckert who was commissioner in 1966. So other teams were able to put in bids so they can negoitate with seaver.
